Obituary

Jean Ellen Painchaud, née Cohen, 96, of Bradenton, Florida, passed away peacefully at her home on March 6, 2026.

Jean was born in Morristown, New Jersey. She earned a degree in English Literature from Drew University, beginning a lifelong passion for language, learning, and education.

She devoted 35 years to teaching, primarily at the high school level, where she inspired generations of students with her enthusiasm and dedication. During her career she taught in Syracuse, New York; Canastota, New York; and Bradenton, Florida. She taught English, Debate, and Journalism. Jean retired in 1992 after spending 20 years teaching at Southeast High School in Bradenton.

Jean married the love of her life, Armand Gerald Painchaud, in 1952. Their marriage of 73 years was a testament to enduring partnership and devotion.

She is survived by her husband, Armand, 97; her four children, Stephen Painchaud, Lesley Painchaud, Michele Neathery, and Madeleine Ross; and her three grandchildren, Alec Le Roy, Charlie Ross, and Amanda Ross.

Jean was the heart of her family; the glue that held everyone together. She never wavered in her love and devotion to her husband and children, offering steady support, wisdom, and humor, all while correcting our grammar. A truly beautiful lady inside and out, she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Jean’s cremains are interred at Sarasota National Cemetery.
