Jean Couch Swope, of Clermont, Florida, passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home on August 31, 2026, at the age of 84.

Born on August 21, 1942, in Poughkeepsie, New York, Jean lived a life defined by friendship, service, curiosity, and a love for connecting with others. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree from the State University of New York at New Paltz and devoted her professional life to helping others, first as a teacher and later as a social worker.

Jean had a wonderful ability to make friends and was known for her friendly and welcoming personality. She enjoyed staying active and involved in her community as a member of the Kehlor Recreation Club and Living Hope Church.

Throughout her life, Jean embraced adventure and enjoyed experiencing all the world had to offer. Her favorite pastimes included playing bridge, shuffleboard, and traveling the world. She cherished the friendships and memories she made along the way.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Robert St. Clair Swope, who passed away in 1990. They were married in 1988. She was also preceded in death by her longtime partner, Marvin “Jake” Jacobson, who passed away in 2020, as well as her faithful service dog, Libby, who passed away in June 2026.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her daughter, Lynette Preston, and son-in-law, Scott Preston; her daughter, Judy Agnew of Binghamton, New York; her grandson, Christopher Preston of Gainesville, Florida; and her cousin, William Couch of Rockport, Texas. She will also be lovingly remembered by the many friends and loved ones whose lives she touched.

Jean's kindness, friendly spirit, love of adventure, and genuine enjoyment of life will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, September 13, at 1:00 p.m. at Living Hope Church in Clermont, Florida. Light refreshments will follow at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Jean's memory to the Haven Hospice Foundation of Gainesville, Florida.
