Jean Worthington Vardy
April 4, 1936–October 12, 2026
Jean Worthington Vardy, 90, of Ormond Beach, Florida, formerly of East Liverpool, Ohio, passed away on October 12, 2026.
Born on April 4, 1936, in Trent Vale, Stoke-on-Trent, England, Jean was the daughter of the late Alfred and Florence Worthington. Jean married George Vardy at St. John’s Church in Trent Vale on January 28, 1956. Over their seven decades together, Jean and George built a life centered on family, traveled extensively throughout the world, and experienced the joy of seeing their family grow to include grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They also formed many close and lasting friendships, which remained an important part of their life together.
Jean’s life journey took her from England to Ireland, back to England, and, in 1967, to the United States, where she and George established their home and raised their family. Jean remained proud of her British heritage throughout her life, keeping that connection alive through her participation in the annual East Liverpool Ethnic Day, along with George dressed as an English “bobby”, as President of the English Club in Saddlebrook, Tucson, Arizona, as well as in the English dishes she prepared, the traditions she shared, and the stories she passed on to her family.
Jean is survived by her husband, George; her daughters: Karin Vardy Morgan and Helen Vardy Gricks (husband, Tim); her grandchildren, Victoria Daacon (husband, Kelly), Robert Morgan (wife, Kerry), and Torrance Gricks; and her great-grandchildren: Brooklynne and Kelani Daacon and Thayer and James Morgan.
Besides her Parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Bill Worthington; her sister, Pat Johnson; and her grandson, Kyle Gricks.
Jean gave generously of her time and talents to her family and to numerous volunteer organizations, including serving as President of the East Liverpool City Hospital Auxiliary. She enjoyed golfing and tennis and was an avid gardener who took pleasure in tending to and sharing what she grew. A creative craftsman and skilled knitter, she designed her own pottery and knitted or crafted apparel, including Halloween costumes for her grandchildren, as well as for charitable causes. Jean was also a fabulous cook, particularly known for the English dishes that reflected her heritage and became part of her family’s traditions. Through these interests and acts of service, she shared her time and talents with both her family and her community. She will be remembered for her devotion to those she loved and for the traditions, skills, and memories she passed on to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Vardy-Worthington Tuition Award Program, a memorial family fund Jean and George launched years ago in memory of their parents. It is administered by the Tuition Mission Foundation. Checks or money orders may be made out to "Tuition Mission" with "Vardy-Worthington" in the memo line and mailed to P. O. Box 458, East Liverpool, Ohio 43920. TuitionMission.net provides more information.
A Celebration of Jean’s Life will be held at a later date.
