Jeffrey Alan Fickas, 54, passed away on September 10, 2014 in Orlando, Florida. Born in Paramus, NJ, he relocated to Florida in 1988 in search of medical assistance for his physically weak heart. He was nursed back to health by his future wife, Sandy, who he claims healed his heart. Over 23 years later, she was honored to be at his bedside once again when God called him home.
Jeff's faith in Christ was the foundation on which he built his life and family. Each week, he looked forward to Saint Andrew's men's Bible study where he devoted himself to studying the Scriptures. At home, he guided his family in trusting the Lord and seeking His will.
Blessed with six beautiful children, Jeff was a dedicated father who poured himself out in providing for them and in pursuing a family wide passion for softball. Jeff's positive impact on young lives went beyond his own children though through his 13 plus years of excellence as a softball and baseball coach. Coach Jeff's 2007 softball team became National Champions at the Softball World Series in North Carolina. Jeff also used his computer savvy to create a softball website, Pitch2Fast, which continues to serve as Florida's central resource for softball information.
Jeff had a 31 year career at AT&T, where he was responsible for the development of applications for sophisticated business requirements. His technical and analytical skills were well respected amongst his peers and he will be sorely missed as an integral part of his team.
In recent years, Jeff became intrigued with the use of Ham radio and set up his own radio where he enjoying chatting with other enthusiasts from around the globe. He shared his joy with this hobby educating others at weekend events.
Jeff is survived by his wife of 23 years, Sandy, and his children Stephanie, Daniel, Julia, Kimberly, Scott and Amy. His surviving brothers and sister are Melville III (Melanie), Donald (Susan), Kenneth (Nancy), and Virginia Leon (Gary), along with 15 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Melville Jr. and Virginia (Murphy) .
Funeral services for Jeff Fickas will be held at St Andrew's Chapel located at 5525 Wayside Drive in Sanford, Florida. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 12th from 5 - 8 pm in the fellowship hall. The service will be at 10 am on Saturday, September 13th in the sanctuary.
