Obituary

The Self family and friends mourn the passing of Jesse Evan Self, 56, who passed away on Thursday October 19, 2017 in Ocala, Florida surrounded by his family. Jesse was a proud Texan born in Harlingen on January 18, 1961, but spent his adult years living in Annapolis, Maryland and Ocala, Florida.

Jesse was a very passionate, dedicated, and hardworking man who believed that there were no limits to what he or his family could achieve. He dedicated his career to helping people with disabilities and was one of the top wheelchair and seating system experts in the country. Jesse loved building the family businesses and watching sports, especially the Houston Astros and Texans.  With pride, Jesse designed and built two family horse  farms as well as The Beach Ocala, a restaurant and bar opened by the Self family in 2012.  His children's school and sports activities were prominent in Jesse's life, and he dedicated time and love to his children by traveling, training, coaching and photographing them through the years.  Jesse loved to travel and was always remembered for his signature cowboy boots and hat, and his passion for food and Texas BBQ.  Jesse loved sharing his knowledge of health and fitness and could always be found in the gym lifting weights and staying fit.  He loved working and building on the farms with his dogs by his side, but was never too busy to stop and hug one of the horses.

Jesse was extremely loving and proud of his family. He is survived by his best friend and wife of 20 years Mary Self, and his three children: daughter Katrina Self and sons Matthew Self and Jesse Self Jr., of Ocala, Florida. Jesse is also survived by his sister Cindy Webber, née Self, brother Andy (Monica) Self, niece Andrea Self and nephew Andrew Self, of Houston, Texas. Jesse was preceded by his brother Billy Alan Self, mother Odilia Self, née Leal,  and father Donald Lloyd Self, of Houston, Texas.

A service and celebration of life will be held at Sweet Water Stables in Morriston, Florida on November 4, 2017 at 4 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Jesse's name to the DeCesaris/Prout Cancer Foundation, PO Box 6089, Annapolis, MD  21401.  Arrangements by Baldwin Brothers Funerals & Cremations 11250 SW 93rd Ct. Rd. Ocala, FL 352-236-7813.
