Jessie Marie Scott

Jessie Marie Scott, 98, of New Smyrna Beach, Florida passed away peacefully on November 1, 2024 at Advent Hospital Hospice following a brief illness. She was born on November 7,1925 in New Boston, Ohio. She lived most of her life in Niles, Ohio moving to New Smyrna Beach in 2021 to be close to family.

Jessie was a graduate of Mineral Ridge High School, Mineral Ridge, Ohio and attended Kent State University.

Jessie lived a long and happy life. Always the life of the party, she had a knack for telling jokes, making celebratory toasts, and making everyone feel comfortable in her presence. Oh the stories we could tell. What fond memories for her many friends and family.

Jessie was a real estate broker and had her own agency, Scott Realty. She was a member of the Women's Council of Realtors since 1974. She served on the Warren Area Board of Realtors as Director from 1972 thru 1990. Served on the WABOR as President for four terms. Was awarded the prestigious Omega Tau Rho for service on the National level. She was awarded the status of Realtor Emeritus by the National Association of Realtors 1971-2011. She was presented CRS Emeritus status for over 25 years of commitment to the WABOR. Served on the Education Committee for Realtors under Ohio Governor Voinavich and US Presidents Ronald Reagan and George Bush. Jessie was a docent and also President of the Niles Historical Society 2001-2004. Worked for the March of Dimes, Heart Fund, and Volunteer for Habitat for Humanity. She also was a past President of the Niles PTA.

She was an accomplished seamstress and cookie maker. She made the best peanut butter cookies. She was always exquisitely dressed with the latest fashions.

Jessie leaves behind to cherish her memory her children: Pamela (Butch) Mealy of New Smyrna Beach, FL, with whom she made her home; Donald Zorn, Leetonia, OH; Roger Zorn, Port Orange, FL; Janet Jones, New Smyrna Beach, FL. Her grandchildren: Krista Betras, Warren, OH; and Christopher (Vickie Goff) Mealy, Washington, DC and many nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed.

Jessie was preceded in death by her parents: Samuel and Stella Skaggs Salyer, brother, E. Speed Salyer, sisters: Irma Kover, Delberta Walters, Ethel Thomas, Audrey Cretella, and Maxine Stapleton, her husband of 52 years, James A. Scott and grandson: Jason Betras.

A private family celebration of life was held on November 4, 2024 in Ponce Inlet, FL.
