IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jim "Rock"
Howe
April 21, 1944 – April 17, 2025
It is with heavy hearts and cherished memories that we announce the passing of Jim "Rock" Howe, CLU, ChFC, a man whose spirit will forever echo in the lives of all who knew him. Jim passed away peacefully, days before his expected 81st birthday festival, leaving behind a legacy of joy, adventure, and love that will never be forgotten.
Whether you were a lifelong companion or a stranger he had just met, Jim had a way of making everyone feel at home and a part of his world. Jim was a true friend to many with a heart of gold, and his zest for life was contagious.
He couldn't sit still for long and was always on the go, seeking new adventures, creating lasting memories, and making every moment count (even without his corporate Amex).
Jim loved anything cooked on the grill, was a fisherman, a golfer in search of a better swing, and an avid Kentucky sports fan. His love of a sporting life was only rivaled by his enthusiasm for sharing the experience with friends and living life to the fullest.
Jim's passing leaves a hole in the hearts of his family and friends, but his legacy lives on in the countless memories he leaves behind. He is survived by his beloved family – his siblings, Jeanie and Frank; his wife, Darla; son and daughter-in-law Bryan & Stephanie; daughters-in-law Linnette and Lori; three beautiful granddaughters he couldn't be prouder of, Tatum, Sammie, and Tara; his work family at Kentucky Central and Jefferson Pilot, as well as his dear friends from Lexington, Woodlake, and Pelican Sound.
A mass in honor of Jim will be held at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 3, 2025 at Our Lady of Light Church, 19680 Cypress View Dr, Fort Myers, FL 33967. Following the service, a celebration of his life will take place at the Pelican Sound River & Golf Club, 4569 Pelican Sound Blvd, Estero, FL 33928. This will be a time for family and friends to come together, share stories, laughter, and reminisce about all the beautiful memories Jim left behind. And, fittingly, since it's Kentucky Derby Day, bring your hat as we serve the mint juleps in his honor.
Jim "Rock" Howe may be gone, but his spirit will live on in every fishing trip, every round of golf, and every moment spent with loved ones. Rest in peace, Rock—you made the world a better place simply by being in it.
