Joan Denise Barratt, 85, of Mt. Dora, Florida, passed away on June 22, 2023. She was born July 14, 1937 in New York City, New York to parents John Francis O'Melia and Mary Mooney O'Melia.

Joan was a proud military wife and dedicated mother of three. She was a teacher for many years and continued to tutor into her 70's. In her later years Joan received an associate degree from Lake-Sumter State College and a bachelor's degree in English from Stetson University in 1999. Joan was passionate about history and genealogy. She did a detailed history of her family doing much research in Ireland. She was the youngest child of six from Irish immigrants. She loved animals, particularly strays in need. She was also very passionate about gardening and nutrition.

Joan leaves behind her loving family, sons Leigh R. Barratt, Jr. and Sean Barratt; daughter Meg Barratt-Patton; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.
