Our dear sweet Joan Overeem Dougherty , of Winter Park, Florida went home to be with our Heavenly Father on Friday, May 2, 2025. Joan was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York to John Overeem and Catherine Miltano. She attended Catholic school at Stella Maris High School in Rockaway, New York. She was a true servant of God. Joan was a resident of Winter Park, Florida since 1970. Joan was the beautiful loving mother of ten children. She was a wonderful friend to many and valued their friendship and kindness. Joan was an active member of the Church of Philadelphia Assembly in Goldenrod. Joan enjoyed taking care of and teaching young children at Sunday school and Preschool. She was a skilled and compassionate caregiver for the elderly, who considered her a friend, while she provided care and comfort in their homes. Joan received multiple awards for her many years of selling Avon and she was affectionately called the "Avon Lady." She enjoyed playing bingo at the Goldenrod Civic Center and attending The Table at Goldenrod with her many Avon gift baskets, where she was affectionally known there as "Purple Joan". She made purple cool in Winter Park! Friends and family have fond memories of special occasions where they enjoyed Joan's carefree and fun spirited attitude. In her final days, Joan was surrounded by and passed peacefully in the loving presence of her family and friends. She was predeceased by her parents and sister. She is survived by her brother, her ten children, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. So many people were gifted by Joan's many acts of kindness, her warm smile and her words of encouragement. She will truly be missed by her many friends and family as she is now in the arms of our Lord. In lieu of flowers please send donations to Edith Marie Foundation for Breast Cancer, Purple Heart Foundation or St Jude Children's Research Hospital. Memorial Service at the Goldenrod Civic Center by the Church of Philadelphia Assembly on Saturday, May 17th at 11am
