IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joan
Griffin
June 15, 1937 – October 13, 2023
Estero – Joan Lydia Griffin died peacefully Friday, October 13, 2023, under the care of Hope Hospice at her home in Estero, FL. Her beloved husband, Peter Griffin and her children Wendy Sequeira (Daniel), Gaye Lampert (Greg) and Scott Bjornson (Evelyn) were at her side.
Joan was born June 15, 1937, in Abington, PA. She grew up in Abington where she met her first husband David Bjornson. Joan attended Beaver College where she earned her AA degree. They raised their family in Bridgewater NJ. Joan started working for American Hoechst Corporation in 1971, and was the first woman in a management position setting the stage for many women to follow in her footsteps.
Joan met Peter Griffin in 1991, at an ice skating party in NJ, and quickly knew this was the man with whom she was going to spend the rest of her life. In 2005, they both retired and moved to Vasari Country Club in Bonita Springs. Joan and Peter enjoyed a very active social life including playing golf, tennis, bridge and any card game someone wanted to play. They loved to travel and had some incredible trips to Russia, Vietnam, Europe and the Caribbean just to name a few. Joan and Peter also attended countless volleyball, baseball, soccer and lacrosse games to watch their grandchildren. You never saw Joan without Peter. Joan's favorite thing to say was "Peter is right at my elbow".
Joan was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Bonita Springs since 2005. She and Peter were always in the front row together holding hands. They would stop at McDonalds for breakfast before heading over to Peter's church, St. John the Evangelist. They both ushered at many concerts at First Presbyterian Church and assisted in the food pantry Saturday mornings at Jesus the Worker Parish in Ft. Myers.
She is survived by her husband Peter Christopher Griffin, three children named above with their spouses, 10 grandchildren – Stefanie Sequeira (Liam Regan), Caroline Sequeira, Alexander Clarke (Renee Amberg), Christopher Clarke, Zachary Clarke, Lydia Bjornson, Brent Bjornson, Trevor Bjornson, Blake Bjornson, Ava Bjornson and great-grand, Bryson Kenneth Clarke.
Joan also has 3 step-children and 6 step grandchildren – Michael Griffin (Joanne Morello) with his children Justin and Hannah, Beth Gainey (Randy) and her children Griffin and Jamin VanOrder and Jonathan Griffin (Kristi Griffin) with their children Madeline and Maeve.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents, George Norman and Lydia Norman.
A Celebration of Life will be held Wednesday, October 25th, at one o'clock at the First Presbyterian Church in Bonita Springs.
Baldwin Brothers Funeral & Cremation Society, Fort Myers is entrusted with final care.
