It is with heavy hearts and profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Joan M. Schlauch, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Born on October 27, 1948, in Rahway, New Jersey, Joan's life was a luminous tapestry of love, laughter, and unwavering dedication to her family and community. She left this world while snorkeling in her cherished "Heaven on Earth," Big Pine Key at Bahia Honda State Park—a testament to her adventurous spirit and deep connection to nature. 

Joan was the treasured daughter of Daisy Doughty and a devoted sister to the late Roberta Erhardt. She is predeceased by her beloved parents and her sister, and her legacy continues through those she leaves behind. Her husband and high school sweetheart, Gustave E. Schlauch Sr., was the love of her life. Their enduring bond was rekindled after years apart, culminating in a beautiful marriage on Valentine's Day in 1984. Joan is survived by her three daughters, Julie Moskovits, Dorothy Gallant and her husband Darin, and Joan Yager with her husband Michael; her son, Gustave Schlauch Jr., and his wife Sue. She was a cherished grandmother to nine grandchildren and a proud great-grandmother to eight great-grandchildren. 

A graduate of Edison Vocational High School in Elizabeth, New Jersey. Joan was a lifelong learner, amassing multiple college degrees and medical vocational certificates. Her entrepreneurial spirit shone brightly when she established "The Patio Restaurant and Caterers" in New Smyrna Beach, where she shared her culinary passion with the community. Later, she dedicated years of service as a Unit Coordinator for Halifax and Advent Hospitals, touching countless lives with her compassion and expertise. 

Upon retirement, Joan embraced new passions, becoming an enthusiastic member of the Orchid Society of Volusia County and the Gem & Mineral Society, where she crafted exquisite jewelry. Her artistic talents flourished at the Artists Workshop in New Smyrna Beach, where she delighted in creating beautiful paintings. 

Joan's life was enriched by her love of the Florida Keys, where she found joy in fishing, scuba diving, and snorkeling with her family. Her home was filled with the vibrant beauty of orchids she lovingly tended. Her contagious laugh, quick wit, and breathtaking smile were hallmarks of her generous spirit, always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. 

Visitation for friends and family will be held on September 17, 2026, from approximately 5:00 PM - 7:30 pm at Baldwin Brothers Funeral Home, located at 1 North Causeway, New Smyrna Beach, FL 32168. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made in Joan's memory to either the American Heart Association or Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Joan M. Schlauch's life was a testament to the power of love, family, and the joy found in everyday moments. Her memory will forever be cherished by those who were fortunate enough to know her.
