IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joan A
Spangler
September 23, 1941 – January 26, 2026
Joan A. Spangler, 84, a lifelong resident of Titusville, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born in Leesburg, Florida, Joan—known to all as Jo—moved to Titusville at the young age of four. She was the beloved daughter of the late William “Pappy” Austin and Polly Austin and proudly called Titusville home for the rest of her life. Jo graduated from Titusville High School in 1959, beginning a life deeply rooted in community, friendship, and family. In May of 1962 she married the love of her life, James Spangler, Sr. who preceded her in death in June of 2021.
Jo enjoyed a long and dedicated career, working for Southeast Bank on the river and later serving as a supervisor for the Brevard County Clerk of Courts. She was especially proud to have recently celebrated 30 years of membership with the Space Coast Pilot Club of Titusville, an organization that meant a great deal to her.
A huge Florida Gator fan, Jo brought enthusiasm and loyalty to everything she loved. She treasured time spent with family and friends, was known for her afternoon socials, and could often be found enjoying dinner with friends at Dixie Crossroads or one of her favorite local restaurants. Jo had a gift for connection—she loved deeply, laughed often, and made everyone around her feel welcome.
Jo is survived by her loving children, Angie Short (Jeff) and James Spangler, Jr. (Angie K); her cherished grandchildren, Ashly Lanthorne (Jason), Courtney Largent (Jesse), Megan Spangler, Taylor Spangler, and Cameron Spangler; and her adored great-grandchildren, Addilyn Largent, Eva Lanthorne, Mila Largent, Emma Lanthorne, and Eli Lanthorne. Her legacy lives on through each of them.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at First Christian Church in Titusville.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Jo’s memory to the Space Coast Pilot Club of Titusville, c/o Ann Freeman, 2168 King Cross, Titusville, FL 32796.
Jo will be remembered for her kindness, her friendships, her love of family, and the joy she brought into so many lives. She will be deeply missed and forever loved.
