She was born in Paw Paw, Michigan on May 31, 1933, to James Vernon Potter and Edith Gaile (Munson) Potter and grew up in Paw Paw, Michigan. She graduated from Paw Paw High School in 1951 and then moved to Chicago with her Sister Verna (Potter) Gibbs and worked at Carson Pierre Scott in the restaurant there. In 1955, JoAnn. her husband and young family moved to Mount Dora, Fl, and put down roots. She found a job at the local Winn-Dixie and later went to work at Bronson's where she became part owner. She later found her way to Links Stationary where she spent many years as a buyer for their gift and specialty goods department. She went on to work and retire from The Piercing Pagoda at Lake Square Mall.
JoAnn was an avid NASCAR fan and shared that love with her Son Tim and her Nephew Kevin Gibbs. She was blessed to be able to go to a race at Daytona with Tim just weeks before her death. In addition to NASCAR, JoAnn loved gardening, music, reading, the arts in Mount Dora, her Grandchildren and Great-grandchildren, and a great adventure. She adored her children above all, and they will miss her dearly. Her Grandchildren and Great-grandchildren cherished time spent with her and they were the light of her life.
JoAnn was a member of the Mount Dora Village Merchants Association, the Greater Mount Dora Chamber of Commerce (President, 1980), and Mount Dora Presbyterian Church.
