Obituary

Joe Arthurs, 84, of The Villages, Florida passed away June 26, 2024. Joe was born to Joseph and Anna Mae Arthurs on July 18, 1939 in Swickley Pennsylvania. He lived in the Pittsburgh area for 18 years.

Joe honorably served in the U.S. Army, Fort Bragg, North Carolina from 1963 to 1965. After his discharge, he began his search for a career. Joe's dad had a loan with a finance company and got him an interview with the finance manager. Joe got the job as a debt collector and this was the beginning for him in the Credit and Finance field.

While working full-time, he enrolled as a part-time student and after several years, and moving to various cities, he completed 110 credit hours, just shy of 130 hours required to graduate. In five years, he had moved numerous times and got a great position in Washington DC. He accepted the role as a Finance Executive at Woodward and Lothrup, commonly called "Woodies." This was the largest department store in the tri-state area located prominently in downtown DC. Joe continued to work and move around to many cities in the north east. While he did not graduate from the University of Maryland, the "BIG GUY UPSTAIRS" helped Joe to find unexpected success. To this day, he believes wholeheartedly that it was this relationship that directed his every move.

Joe then moved to Richmond, Virginia where he served as Vice President, Bank of Virginia, Credit Card Division, which is known as Capital One today. He met a very special lady named

Donna when she applied for a position with the bank. They maintained a casual relationship throughout the years until life took the very best turn he could ever have imagined and he and Donna were married.
After 10 years with the bank, Joe took a new challenge in 1981 with a new startup company called ChexSystems, a fraud prevention system that served the banking industry, but also included major retailers in the United States. He served in an Executive Sales role with the responsibility to manage from Mississippi down the entire East Coast. When Joe retired in February 2005, he received accolades for the market share being 85% under his leadership. Later that same year, they moved to The Villages, Florida.Joe and Donna enjoyed taking trips throughout the state of Florida, spending a lot of time in Key West and celebrating Christmas with their friends, family and most importantly enjoying each other. Joe and Donna felt blessed to have the friends that they had in The Villages. Sadly, Donna proceeded Joe in death and passed away December 18, 2017.

Joe is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Sharon Lovenbury, St Cloud, Florida and his niece Kerry Mudd who married another Joe, Joe Mudd. They now live in Huntersville, NC.

Joe's final resting place will be beside Donna at the National Cemetery, Bushnell, Florida.

Baldwin Brothers Funeral & Cremation Society of  Wildwood is caring for the family of Joe Arthurs.
