Obituary

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Joel C. Shelton, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, who departed this life on October 19, 2026, at the age of 70. Born on February 21, 1956, in Baltimore, Maryland, Joel graced the world with his kindness, strength, and unwavering devotion to faith and family.

Joel was the cherished son of the late Mildred and Loyd Shelton, who instilled in him the values of hard work, integrity, and compassion. He was predeceased by his beloved parents, and his memory will forever be cherished by those he leaves behind.

For 27 glorious years, Joel shared a life filled with love and laughter with his devoted wife, Suzanne, whom he married on June 26, 1999. Together, they built a beautiful family and raised five extraordinary children: Katie, Joel, Paul, Michael, and John. Joel was a doting father and an adoring grandfather to Jaxon, Tallulah, Kierdyn, Lynnde, and Kaelyn, who were the light of his life.

As a dedicated brother, Joel leaves behind his sibling, Mark Shelton, who shared in his joys and supported him through life's challenges. He also leaves behind many Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, In-Law’s, Nieces and Nephews whom he loved dearly.

A proud veteran, Joel served his country with honor in the U.S. Marine Corps. After his military service, he was a skilled electrician, serving in many various capacities. His work ethic and commitment to his craft were admired by all who had the pleasure of working alongside him.

Joel was a man of deep faith, actively participating in the life of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, where he was known for his generosity and warm spirit. He was a true superhero to his family, selflessly giving his time and energy to ensure that they were always surrounded by love and support.

An avid lover of the outdoors, Joel found great joy in planning hikes and beach trips, sharing the wonders of nature with his loved ones. Every gathering was an opportunity for him to bring his family together, creating memories that would be cherished.

Joel's life will be celebrated on November 12, 2026, at 9:30 AM, with a Funeral Mass at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 525 S. US Hwy 41, Dunnellon, FL 34432. His family invites all who knew him to join in honoring a life so well-lived and to find comfort in the words of Psalm 23, a passage that held special meaning for him.

Joel Shelton's legacy is one of love, generosity, and unwavering dedication to those he held dear. He will be profoundly missed, yet his spirit will live on in the hearts of those who were blessed to know him.
