John Patrick
Cordon
September 26, 1940 – April 3, 2026
St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church
11:00 am - 12:00 pm (Eastern time)
John "Jack" Patrick Cordon, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully at his home in The Villages, Florida, on Thursday, April 3, 2026, at the age of 85, surrounded by his wife and three daughters.
Known to his friends as Jack, to his co-workers as John, to his daughters as Daddy, to his grandchildren as Pop-Pop, and to his great-grandchildren as G-Pop, he was a man of many names — each one a reflection of how deeply he was loved.
Born on September 26, 1940, in Stamford, Connecticut, Jack was the son of Irish immigrants Mary Ellen (Hurley) Cordon of Thurles, County Tipperary, and Patrick Joseph Cordon of Enniscorthy, County Wexford — a heritage he wore with enormous pride his entire life. He attended St. John Parochial School and completed his education at Stamford High School. In 1960, Jack was drafted into the U.S. Army, completed basic training at Fort Dix, New Jersey, and went on to serve with the 24th Infantry Division, driving an M-59 armored personnel carrier. He was stationed in Munich, Germany from 1961 to 1963.
It was during his military service that Jack's greatest chapter began. While on-leave and visiting family in Enniscorthy, Ireland in 1962, he met the love of his life, Anna Coghlan. After a whirl-wind courtship, they were engaged in 1963, and Anna immigrated to the United States. The two were married in Stamford, Connecticut on September 26, 1964 — Jack's birthday. He loved to tell people he chose that date so he would never forget his anniversary. He never did. This past September, they celebrated 61 years together.
A proud and tireless worker, Jack held many jobs over the years, including bartending, driving, and construction, often working several at a time to provide for his family. In 1971 he joined the Cos Cob Power Plant, working for Conrail and later Metro-North Railroad, where he spent 31 years in various roles and finally retired as a machinist inspector. Outside of work, Jack was a member of the American Legion, the Ancient Order of Hibernians, the Knights of Columbus (3rd Degree), the Loyal Order of Moose, the Greenwich Hibernian Association, the Cos Cob Fire Police, and several different catholic churches over the years — a testament to his deep commitment to community, faith, and his Irish roots.
Jack was a family man to his core, with a dry wit and a gift for the perfectly timed one-liner. He was most content with simple pleasures — a good cup of coffee, a word-search puzzle, a Manchester United match on the television, and the company of the people he loved. Over the years, there were numerous family vacations - trips with his girls to Disney World, weekends with his Irish friends in the Catskills, and of course, trips overseas to England and Ireland. His final visit to Wexford was Christmas of 2022. In January of this year, the immediate family gathered for one final cruise together, where Jack and Anna competed in the “Not-so-Newlywed” game and were recognized as the longest-married couple in the audience. Stories were told and many new memories were made with his daughters and sons-in-law.
Jack is survived by his beloved wife Anna; daughters Cailín (Jason) Cordon-Waldman of Emmaus, Pennsylvania, Siobhán (Sean) Oxner of Clinton, Michigan, and Sinéad (Bruce) Toth of Seymour, Connecticut; granddaughters Tara Pachter (Jordan) Meyer, Erin Pachter, Britney (Justin) Angel, Kaitlin (Charlie) Cable, Shannon (Dylan) Cable, Morgan (Austin) Bartlett, and Fallon Cable (Keefer); 14 great-grandchildren; and many cherished nieces; nephews; and cousins on both sides of the Atlantic.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, April 24, 2026 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 5232 East County Road 462, Wildwood, Florida 34785, followed by a Celebration of Life from 12:30pm - 4:30pm at Laurel Manor, 1985 Laurel Manor Drive, The Villages, Florida 32162. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to Cornerstone Hospice, 601 Mariposa Way, The Villages, FL 32162 or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
May his memory be a blessing to all who knew him.
