IN LOVING MEMORY OF
John David
Edwards
August 12, 1947 – May 10, 2025
John David Edwards, a longtime resident of Port Orange, Florida, passed away on May 10, 2025, at the age of 77.
Born on August 12, 1947, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, John was the youngest of five children, all of whom preceded him in death. He served proudly in the U.S. Army's 82nd Airborne Division during the Vietnam War and later dedicated 30 years to the U.S. Postal Service as a mail carrier, where his friendly manner and dependable service made him a familiar face in the community.
John had a real zest for life. He loved skiing, tennis, and cycling, and he loved sharing a good story even more. A natural storyteller and self-proclaimed ladies' man (at least in his own mind), John never missed an opportunity to chat, joke, or make someone laugh. He didn't mind talking to anyone and had a unique way of bringing humor to the everyday.
Though it seems he didn't leave anything written for this occasion—classic John—we think he'd be just fine with that. He lived in the moment, with a big heart and a generous spirit. He especially had a soft spot for animals. John was known for giving treats to neighborhood dogs on his postal route and even looked after stray cats, offering them food and warmth on his patio.
He is survived by many loving nieces and nephews, and he will be dearly missed by the many friends whose lives he brightened with his stories, laughter, and kindness.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
