IN LOVING MEMORY OF
John Harwood
Goltz
May 2, 1939 – April 20, 2025
John Harwood Goltz, 85, of North Port, Florida, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2025. He will be missed by his family and the countless friends he made along the way.
John was born May 2, 1939, in Portsmouth, Ohio, to John and Geneva Goltz. He graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1957 and went on to complete trade school, learning the craft of masonry. In 1961, he married Stephanie Thompson, and they had three daughters. John was as hard-working as they come. This was evident in his masonry business, which he founded. He built numerous commercial buildings around the Columbus, Ohio area. He was self-taught in so many areas of his life. There never seemed to be anything he didn't know how to accomplish. He always strongly encouraged his daughters to make the most of the opportunities presented to them. His hard-working nature poured over into his "retirement" years as he relocated to Harbor Cove Community in North Port, Florida. He enjoyed helping his neighbors who needed care for their homes with power washing, repairing driveways, roof repairs, and painting. He loved to help people and, as a result, established many friendships along the way.
Throughout his life, John has enjoyed many hobbies, including skiing, running, rollerblading, biking, and most of all, boating. His love for boating was developed early as his parents enjoyed boating along the Ohio River. This passion continued throughout his life. During the summers, he enjoyed boating and spending time with his family at the cabin that he built along the Ohio River. During his retirement years, he and his second wife, Joanne, equally enjoyed boating with friends along the beautiful intercoastal areas of Florida. He will be missed by his children, Suzanne (Kent) Homoelle and their children, Courtney (Billy) Starkey, Bethany (Austin) Morgan, and Colleen( Kyle) Brunner; Karen (Paul) Siciliano and their children Sam, Mary, and Mark; Julie (Jason) Diley and their children Madeleine and Jake (Viki); his 4 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends too numerous to name. Preceded in death by his parents, Geneva and John Goltz, and step-father Charles Bennett, his second wife, Joanne, his sister Jane Higbee, and grandson Nick. A graveside service will be held with the family at a later date, where he will be laid to rest near his hometown of Portsmouth, Ohio.
