John William Hackett, 73, passed peacefully with his wife by his side at his home in Florida on June 2lst 2025.
Son to Goldie and Lavern Hackett born May 7, 1952 in Auburn, NY. He lived in port Byron NY for most of his life, moving to Florida in 2021. John spent his entire life looking out for others and striving to be the best roofing specialist he could be. He was proud of the "Hack the Jack" tag line and wore it well. He was known for perfection in his work and over the course of his career, was known to go places and do things on a steeple or roof that was a testament to his fearlessness and desire to succeed. He loved his work, his family, horseracing, and peanut butter cups but his grandchildren could produce a smile that nothing else compared to.
He set the example for Son, Brother, Husband, Father, Grandfather and Friend. He was predeceased by his Brother Danny, Mother Goldie, Sister Shirley, Father Lavern (Jack), Brother Freddie and Stepfather Fred.
He leaves behind Wife Tammy after almost 50 years, Son John W. Hackett II of Port Byron, NY; Grandchildren Matt and Haley; Son Michael (Priscilla) Shaffer of Rutherfordton, NC Grandchildren Autumn and Simon; Sisters Carolyn Robinson of Auburn, NY, Bonnie Gerehart of Elbridge, NY, and Jacquelyn Blaisdell of Valentines ,VA; Brother Dustin Tanner of Tampa, FL and Step Mother Francis Hackett of Port Saint Lucie, FL. He also leaves behind many friends, cousins, nieces and nephews, some of whom brought him solace in his final days.
John has chosen to stay with his wife until her passing in which time they will be buried together in Port Byron.
There will be a celebration of life on Sunday, July 13, 2025 from 2-4pm at Potters Farm to Fork, 1951 New York Rt. 31, Port Byron, NY 13140 (Next to the School).
No formal wear. Come as you are (he was I t-shirt and jeans guy) and bring a happy memory.
