Obituary

John Paul Horan ("Jack")

It is with profound sadness and much love that we announce the passing of John Paul Horan ("Jack"), age 87, of The Villages, Florida. Jack passed away peacefully at his home on the morning of June 17, 2026.

Born on September 21, 1938, to John and Rita Horan, Jack was raised in Queens Village, New York, with a strong sense of family, hard work, curiosity, and an adventurous spirit that remained with him throughout his life.

Growing up in Queens, Jack developed a lifelong love for the Giants, the Knicks, and Katz's Deli. He was a proud alumnus of Chaminade High School in Mineola, New York, and later earned his Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from St. John's University in Queens. Jack wore his St. John's class ring with pride and often joked with family and friends, "You may kiss the ring." Following college, Jack proudly served in the United States Army Reserve at Fort Eustis, Virginia, from October 1961 through August 1962.

Hard work defined Jack throughout his life. After graduating from college, he began a career in medical sales that spanned an incredible 65 years, retiring just one year before his passing. He spent many years with Hillrom, where he took great pride in helping hospitals provide quality patient care through the sale of hospital beds. His dedication extended beyond his career—whenever a family member or friend was hospitalized, Jack always made sure they were placed in a Hillrom bed whenever possible. Although he was devoted to his career, Jack’s greatest love was always his five children. He cherished watching them play sports, giving their friends memorable nicknames, and keeping everyone laughing with his endless dry jokes.

Jack was a man of many passions and had a remarkable ability to surprise people with his wide-ranging interests. He loved skiing, scuba diving, roller coasters, traveling, running, sports, good food, IPAs, tracking gas prices, maintaining his cars, and, perhaps most of all, finding "a good deal." His love of cars and bargains often came together when he befriended local mechanics who would help him work on his vehicles “after hours.”

After moving to Florida, Jack joined the Miami Ski Club and continued pursuing his love of skiing, traveling to destinations around the world. One of his greatest adventures was helicopter skiing in Chile. Later, while living in The Villages, he enjoyed playing pinochle, driving his convertible, cheering on his favorite sports teams, and spending time with family and friends.

Jack will be remembered for his wisdom, his quick wit, his unforgettable one-liners, and, perhaps most memorably, his beautiful blue eyes. More than anything, he will be remembered as a father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend whose love of life inspired those around him.

Jack was predeceased by his beloved son, John Horan, and his cherished grandson, Timothy.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Horan; his daughter-in-law, Kate Horan; his daughter, Elizabeth Lavery, and her husband, Rory; his daughter, Mary Strong and son in law Scott Strong; his son, Tom Horan, and his wife, Mary; his daughter, Jennifer Krasco, and her husband, Michael; his grandchildren, Joanna Horan; Meghan Ahlersmeyer and her husband, Joe; William Horan and his wife, Alex; Kieran Lavery and his wife, Jenny; Katie Kriebel and her husband, Dustin; Allison Lavery and her fiancee Michael Engrassia; Madeline Strong; Cooper Strong; Jack Horan; Ryan Horan; Kiera Horan; Jake Krasco; Ava Krasco; and Dylan Krasco. He was also the proud great-grandfather of nine great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him tremendous joy.

A Funeral Mass celebrating Jack's life will be held on Monday, July 20, at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Timothy's Roman Catholic Church in The Villages, Florida.
