Obituary

John Frederick "Fritz" Langville II, a man whose life was a testament to kindness, dedication, and a wonderful sense of humor, passed away peacefully on November 3, 2026, in hospice care after a short battle with colon cancer. Born on November 13, 1946, in Baltimore, MD, Fritz was the beloved son of Frederick John Langville and Eileen (Hoffman) Langville, both of whom predeceased him.

Fritz spent his summers at his grandparents' house on Rock Creek in Pasadena, MD, and later raised his family there. Living by the water, he developed a love for sailing, which led to his service in the Coast Guard Auxiliary from 1974 to 1983. Fritz rose to the rank of Flotilla Commander, where he displayed leadership and commitment for the safety and well-being of his community. Fritz enjoyed spending time outdoors and teaching his sons to golf, swim, fish and sail.

Professionally, Fritz dedicated over 25 years to ADT Security Systems, He began his career in installation where he was frequently on call and would handle emergency repairs in the middle of the night. He subsequently moved into sales achieving leadership awards. After retirement, he owned a mobile food vending business for a number of years and delighted in providing liquid refreshments at daycare centers throughout Ocala. When one child could not have a sugary drink because of dietary restrictions, he went out of his way to modify the drink so the child would not be left out.

Outside of work, Fritz was known for his love of golf and billiards. As a child, Fritz and his father learned to play golf together, and his passion for the sport continued over his lifetime. Over the years, he participated in numerous golf tournaments and won the On Top of the World Men's Club Golf Championship in 2017. He also served as President of the OTOW Men's Golf Association for several years. More recently, he developed his proficiency in billiards, practicing many hours on the dining room table and in the billiards room. He also actively participated in the OTOW billiard leagues. He was known for his quick wit and his generosity, which was demonstrated by treating his billiard buddies to candy on a regular basis.

Fritz was very giving and highly perceptive, helping family, friends, and strangers alike. He moved to On Top of the World permanently in 2003 when he sensed that his mother was not doing well after his father passed. With his support, she thrived, and he dedicated himself to her care until her death in 2015. As for strangers, if a car was stopped by the side of the road, he would always pull over and offer help. Finally, he was a true "dog whisperer" and animal lover, well known by the dog community of OTOW. Although Fritz was not of nobility or wealth, he felt privileged, and he guided his life by the phrase "noblesse oblige," feeling that he had an unwritten responsibility to act with generosity, honor, and care toward those who are less fortunate, a family trait passed down for generations.

Fritz was down to earth and enjoyed simple pleasures—watching the sunset, experiencing the tranquility of Sholom Park, and noticing wildlife like birds, squirrels, geckos, and gopher turtles. Most of all, he enjoyed making people laugh. On the golf course, when passing friends or strangers on his way to the next hole, he would ask with a straight face, "Is this the way to I-75?"

Fritz is survived by his sons, John A. (Kristine) Langville and Eric S. (Michelle) Langville, who carry forward his legacy of kindness and dedication. He is also survived by his beloved partner of 15 years, Susan "Sue" Rhodes; her daughters, Kendra (Mark) Beaven and Dakota River; and her grandchildren, Theo, Maxwell, and William Beaven. He is also remembered with love by Connie L. Langville, the mother of his children.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at the E.W. & Lucille Cates House for their exceptional care and support during Fritz's final days. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Fritz's memory to the Hospice of Marion County in Ocala, FL.

Fritz's life was a shining example of love, generosity, and resilience. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
