John Michael Carlton (“Mike”), born in Orlando, Florida, on June 11, 1952, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2026, at the age of 74.

Mike spent much of his life in the American West, living in Utah, Colorado, and Wyoming before returning to Pine Island in Florida, and then lastly resided at an assistant living facility at Hampton Manor in Cape Coral, Florida.

Mike devoted his career to helping others as a respiratory therapist, a profession that reflected his caring and compassionate nature. Away from work, he found his greatest happiness outdoors. He had a deep appreciation for nature and especially enjoyed fishing and snow skiing. Whether casting a line on the water or spending a day on the slopes, Mike found peace in the places he loved most.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack W. Carlton and Nancy A. Carlton.

Mike is survived by his brother, David W. Carlton, and sister-in-law, Linda C. Carlton; his niece, Debra Kreiger, and her husband, Christopher Kreiger; and his great-niece and great-nephew, Anna Kreiger and Cale Kreiger. He also leaves behind extended family members and friends who will cherish his memory.

The family extends their sincere gratitude to the caregivers, hospice staff, and the many kind neighbors in Pine Island Cove who showed Mike friendship, compassion, and support during his later years. Their kindness brought comfort to both Mike and his family and will always be remembered.

In keeping with his wishes, Mike was cremated, and no formal services will be held. His family will celebrate his life privately.

Mike will be remembered for his quiet strength, gentle spirit, love of the outdoors, and the compassion he showed throughout his life. His memory will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
