Obituary

John "Mickey" Mock, 76, died on June 4th, 2024, in Ormond Beach, FL, with his loving wife by his side.

Mickey was born on October 25th, 1947, in Sylvania, GA and moved with his family to the Volusia county area in 1961 where his passion for fishing exploded. He worked on fishing charters until he enlisted in the Army in 1966 and served in Vietnam.

After his honorable discharge, Mickey quickly returned to his passion and soon became the Captain of the charter boat, the Blue Angel. Excelling at his profession and having a magnetic personality led him to take the helm of a yacht owned by Nascars' founder, Bill France, the Little Kay, where he entertained numerous guests and took them fishing with the two boats available atop the yacht at all times.

He left his NASCAR family after years of service to spend more time with his own family and took up carpentry with his father and brothers. Fishing never left his bones and he was willing to wet a line anywhere, from backwoods to creeks to river fishing to offshore. He was always "red-eye".

He also had a passion for hunting and was a long standing member of Lighter Knots Hunt Club, now the Rima Ridge tract of Tiger Bay Wildlife Management Area.

Mickey is survived by his wife of 46 years, Diane, 5 children; Gregory Pomp (Kimmie), Richard Mock (Melissa), John Mock, Jr. (Lisa), Debbie Mock, and Angela Gillespie (Ben). Together they blessed him with 14 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.  Mickey was also survived by his brother Kem Mock and sister Catherine Thompson.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Dorothy Mock, and his brothers Bubba, Ronnie, Bill, Ricky and Kenny as well as his sister Polly Mock.

His celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 8th, 2024, at 3:00pmat the First Church of Port Orange, 305 Dunlawton Ave, Port Orange, FL, and will be followed by a reception directly afterwards at the same location.

Catering will be provided by Sonny's BBQ per Mickey's request. Mickey also requested that everyone wear fishing attire for the services.

Because nobody will be available to accept flowers at the venue, any requests to send flowers should be directed to Simply Roses Florist, 124 S. Nova Rd, Ormond Beach, Fl. They can be reached at (386)672-4848. The family will pick up any flowers for Mickey from them Saturday morning.
