Obituary

John “Dick” Richard Anderson Jr., of Lake Mary, Florida, passed away on Sunday, April 12, 2026, at the age of 88. His family was by his side at the end, and he is now at peace.

John was born in Youngstown, Ohio, and moved to Orlando as a young boy. He graduated from Boone High School and went on to attend Rollins College, where he earned a master’s degree in physics.

While in college, he met the love of his life, Margaret Lois “Hart” Anderson, a small-town farm girl from Mayo, Florida. They met in downtown Orlando in the basement of the post office and continued dating while he attended Rollins. They later married and built a life together, raising two children. John was a devoted provider for his family, allowing Lois to focus on their home and children.

John worked as an electro-optical engineer in the aerospace industry. He began his career at Martin Marietta, where he worked until 1976, and then continued with International Laser Systems, later known as Litton Laser Systems. He served as Director of New Development until his retirement at age 60.

Earlier in life, John enjoyed traveling, especially to Italy. He often said he would have liked to live there for a year in retirement, though that dream was never realized. Still, he shared many wonderful trips over the years with his beloved wife, Lois.

In his retirement years, John cherished time with his family and grandchildren. He was happy sitting at his computer or tinkering with his latest project.

He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Lois; his son, Mark Anderson, and his wife, Patty; his daughter, Sharon May, and her husband, James; and his grandchildren, Aidan May, Collin May, Sabrina May, Jessica Anderson, and Jared Anderson.

John was a kind and gentle man who taught his family the importance of honesty and always doing the right thing. In keeping with his wishes, no service is planned—he was a simple man and wanted it no different in the end.

He will be greatly missed and forever loved by his family.
