Obituary

John Michael Sweeney, 81 years old, of The Villages, FL, passed away on November 28, 2021.  John (Mike as he was known to old friends and family), died suddenly with his wife by his side.  He is survived by his loving and devoted spouse, Dianne, his sisters Ann Cleary and Julia Smith, and many cousins, nieces and nephews and their families.  He is predeceased by his father, John E Sweeney, mother, Rita (Smith) Sweeney, and his sisters Rita (Sweeney) Hudiak and Patricia Sweeney.

Born in Philadelphia, PA, John attended West Chester State Teachers College (now Westchester University) where he received a BA in Education.  He later received a MA degree in Educational Administration from Glassboro State College (now Rowan University).  He began his 36-year career in education teaching English to adults and vocational students.  John transitioned to vocational administration and served as a Supervisor of Curriculum and Instruction and then as an Assistant Principal.   During this time, he coached track and mentored vocational students for college and technical careers.  Interested in the lives and futures of his staff members, John was always on hand with career and retirement advice.

Retiring early, John and Dianne moved to New Hampshire.  He was a volunteer tour guide at a grand hotel and served as a member of the local planning board and as a Board member of the community property owners association.    He enjoyed hiking, golf, winters in Hawaii, and travel to many locations in Great Britain and Europe.  Several years ago, John and Dianne moved to the Villages and continued living a happy retirement.

A man of great kindness and deep thinking, John graced the world with his optimism, concern for others, and most important his wonderful smile.

A mass is scheduled for John on January 15, 2022 at St. Vincent DePaul Church in Wildwood, FL.

Shed no tears

for I need them not.

All I need is your smile.

When you live in the

hearts of those you love,

remember then…..

you never die.
