Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that the family of John Louis Tufaro, 77 of The Villages, Florida, announce his peaceful passing on July 11, 2024.

Born in Queens, New York on December 13, 1946, John was raised by his loving mother Anna DeAngelo. John graduated Newtown High School in Corona, New York before attending Queens Community College in Flushing, New York. John had a successful and distinguished career in the banking industry with his most recent role as a Retirement Plan Specialist at Caldwell Trust Company in Venice, Florida.

John met his wife Joann (Maione) in Corona, New York in 1966. The two were married on July 5th, 1969 in Queens, NY and celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary this year. John and Joann raised their three sons (John, Jason, and Jeffrey) in the town of Holbrook, New York in Suffolk County. In 1994 they relocated to Alpharetta, Georgia where they resided for 14 years before settling down in Florida and retiring to Venice, and eventually The Villages, Florida.

John was a devout Catholic, and attended weekly mass with Joann at Saint Vincent DePaul Catholic church in Wildwood, Florida and in blessing with Father John McCracken (Parochial Vicar).

John was an avid sports fan with a passion for golfing, softball, and above all else, baseball. A talented baseball player in his youth, John devoted time in his adult life to little league coaching.  John loved the New York Yankees, and often attended games with his sons, collected Yankees memorabilia, and participated in the Yankees Baseball Fantasy Camp, where he received top accolades.  In 2022, John and his sons visited the Cooperstown Baseball Hall of Fame, where he was able to share his passion and love for the game of baseball with his sons on a trip filled with memorable moments.

John's love for his family was steadfast as a devoted husband, father and grandpa. His greatest pleasure was spending time with family and enjoying his three grandchildren. John was a friend to all he knew and will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

John was preceded to heaven by his mother Anna DeAngelo. He is survived by his wife Joann (Maione) Tufaro; their three sons John Tufaro with wife Rachel, Jason Tufaro with wife Cinamin, and Jeffrey Tufaro with wife Katie; three grandchildren: Annie Tufaro, Adeline Tufaro and Everett Tufaro; sisters Anna DeFluri, Mary Tufaro Kritikos, Denise Tufaro Brust, brother Leonard Dura as well as cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

In loving remembrance of John Louis Tufaro "Heroes get remembered but legends never die" (Babe Ruth).

The family will hold service on August 24, 2024 at 10:00AM EST at Saint Vincent DePaul Catholic Church in Wildwood, Florida.
