IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Johnnie
Davis
July 25, 1941 – June 27, 2024
Johnnie Davis passed away peacefully at home on June 27, 2024, with his loving wife of 57 years by his side. Johnnie married Janet Tygart Davis in 1966, after meeting in Manhattan, Kansas, while he was stationed at Fort Riley. Johnnie Clinton Davis was born to Joseph Lee Davis and Estelle Virginia Webb Davis on July 25, 1941, at home with his twin sister, Bonnie Elizabeth, in Winter Garden, Florida.
He graduated from Lakeview High School in 1959. He worked at Lyons's Service Station in Winter Garden throughout high school until he was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1963. He served with the First Infantry Division, The Big Red 1, in Vietnam from 1965 to 1966.
Johnnie retired as plant manager from the City of Orlando where he worked for many years in the water reclamation and wastewater department, winning awards for excellence on the state and national level. He was instrumental in creating the first emergency response procedures for his department. He was a member of FWPCOA, and the first plant manager to become licensed in the reclaimed water programs within the state of Florida.
He is survived by his wife, Janet, sons Robert Craig (Carey), Michael Joseph (Jamie), grandchildren William Ross, Morgan Elizabeth, Abigail Brynn, Erik Michael, and Rachael Lynne, his twin sister, Bonnie, and his nieces he loved like his own children. He is preceded in death by his father, mother, brother Harvey Lee (Dick), and sisters Hilda Ayers and JoAnne Webb.
Johnnie has always had a soft spot for kids and animals, with his kids and grandkids his passion in life. He loved the dogs in his life, often speaking of his childhood pets, and rarely without a dog at his side. He is survived by his labrador, Angie. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made to Labrador Retriever Rescue of Florida or the animal charity of your choice.
Friends will be received at Baldwin Brothers Funeral Home, 1350 E. Burleigh Boulevard in Tavares, Florida, on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, from 5 to 7 pm.
Johnnie will be laid to rest with Military Honors at Winter Garden Cemetery on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at 10 am.
