Jon Erickson “Eric” Shirey, 58, passed away peacefully at his home in The Villages, Florida, on August 23, 2026, surrounded by the enduring love and warmth of his family and friends.

Born on August 21, 1968, in Richland, Washington, Eric was the beloved son of Sandra Jean (Erikson) Shirey and the late Michael Odin Shirey.

Known for his dedicated work ethic and friendly demeanor, Eric retired in 2023 after 28 years of faithful service as a cashier at Costco. Following his retirement, he settled into his home in the Village of Bridgeport at Creekside Landing, directly across the street from his lifelong chosen brother, Todd Kane Posey, and Todd’s husband, David Allen Posey, who lovingly cared for and supported him throughout his cancer journey.

Eric was a truly colorful and generous soul who brought light, humor, and genuine warmth to everyone whose life he touched. He lived with an infectious zest for life and had a wonderful eye for beauty. He loved gardening and landscaping, creating intricate diamond art keepsakes for family and friends, and spending time socializing with the people he loved.

A passionate adventurer, Eric loved exploring the world. His travels took him throughout the Caribbean, Mexico, Thailand, the British Isles, and, most recently, Japan.

While his body ultimately succumbed to the ravages of colon cancer, Eric was fundamentally a soul—radiant, whole, and entirely uncorruptible. His strength, kindness, humor, generosity, and sparkling spirit remained untouched by illness and will forever endure in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Eric is survived by his devoted mother, Sandra Jean Shirey, and his brother, Michael Anthony Shirey, both of Hauser, Idaho; his sisters, Deborah Maie Shirey of Everett, Washington, and Andrea (Shirey) Hansen of Piedmont, California; his chosen brothers, Todd Kane Posey and David Allen Posey; as well as a wide circle of extended family and cherished friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Michael Odin Shirey.

Eric will be remembered not simply for the years he lived, but for the joy he brought, the friendships he treasured, the beauty he created, and the love he gave so freely. His presence will be deeply missed, but his colorful spirit and the memories he created will remain forever.
