Jorge Luis Gonzalez, 90, passed away on August 6, 2026, just weeks after celebrating his 90th birthday on July 11 with family. He was born in Manatí, Puerto Rico, and moved to New York with his family when he was eight years old.

Jorge served in the United States Air Force from 1955 to 1976, retiring as a Master Sergeant. A proud Vietnam veteran, his military career was an important part of his life and something he carried with him throughout the years.

After retiring from the Air Force, Jorge spent 15 years working at Disney World, then 10 years at the University of Tennessee, working through a grant program that helped individuals obtain their GEDs.

Outside of work, Jorge had plenty of interests. He was particularly proud of his Corvettes and loved to sing, and always had a book in his hand, usually a detective novel. He was especially good at cards and games and was always up for a little competition. Jorge was also known for his sense of humor and constant joking. He had a way of keeping things light and making people laugh.

Jorge was preceded in death by his first wife, Carolyn Gonzalez Schmidt, with whom he shared 42 years of marriage; his second wife, Tracy Drayton Gonzalez, with whom he shared 12 years of marriage; his son, Monte K. Gonzalez; and his brother, Pablo Negron.

He is survived by his daughters, Lisa Gonzalez (Michele Preston) and Lori Gonzalez (Sue Mask); grandchildren Jason, and Monte's children Joshua (Heidi), Anna (Justin), Beka (Corey), Aubrie, Olivia, and Caleb (Hannah); siblings Sonia Curbelo, Augustine Gonzalez, and Milagro Gonzalez; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

He will be remembered for helping the Hispanic community, love of Corvettes and Elvis, and ability to always find something to joke about.

Jorge lived 90 years and rarely missed an opportunity to tell a joke. He will be missed.
