Jose D. Castro, "The Kid," 77, of Orlando, FL, died Friday, June 15, 2012. Jose was born September 12, 1934, in Paraiso, Panama, to the late Jose M. and Carmen Castro. He was the youngest of six children. Growing up in the Panama Canal Zone, Jose had a mischievous and adventurous personality. At 17 years old, Jose joined the United States Army and after 21 years of service, retired as Sergeant First Class, E-7, in 1974. During his time in the Army, he was stationed in Germany during the Korean Conflict, and served two tours of duty in Vietnam. He later met and married the love of his life, Hercilia Ramirez on November 26, 1980. He worked as a security guard for the Panama Canal Commission and retired after 19 years of service. In August of 1994, he moved his family to Central Florida. Jose was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and fierce patriarch of the family. His six children fondly remember his sense of humor, outgoing personality, and the ability to make a friend with any stranger. Jose enjoyed cooking, telling stories, making people laugh, and loving his family and friends. He is survived by his loving wife and partner of 42 years, Chila; three sons, Jose, Jr., Aquiles, and Ruben; three daughters, Carmen Inman (Stan), Maruquel Samaniego (Carlos), Michelle Castro, and Migdalia Castro; five grandchildren, Nelson (Nakima), Joey, Marisa, Evan, and Madison,; four great grandchildren, Melody, Ashley, Joshua and Cody and two sisters, Alicia Charris and Petronila Jimenez. "The KID" will be missed by all!!! A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, June 22, 2012, 6:30 pm at the Winter Park Chapel, 301 W. New England Ave., Winter Park, FL 32789.
