Josefina “JoCas” Casuela, a mother, global traveler, lifelong caregiver, and accomplished nursing executive, passed away the night of August 3, 2026, at Osceola Regional Medical Center following complications from a second stroke. Her family extends their deepest, eternal gratitude to the dedicated medical team at Osceola Regional, who provided compassionate care through both of her strokes. Having remarkably overcome her first stroke in October 2024 to regain near-full mobility and preserve her beloved independence, Josefina showed the extraordinary strength and resilience that defined her entire life.

Born in Manila, Philippines, on September 20, 1950, Josefina grew up with a deep commitment to faith, discipline, and learning. She attended St. Scholastica’s College in Manila as a girl and went on to earn her Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from the University of the Philippines, launching a career centered on compassionate care.

Josefina moved to New York in 1975. Dedicated to excellence, she earned her Master’s degree in Nursing from Hunter College while working double shifts, and rose to become a Nurse Administrator. Over a career spanning more than 50 years, her visionary leadership helped shape patient care across numerous institutions, including Interfaith Medical Center, Raritan Bay Medical Center, Richmond University Medical Center, and Osceola Regional Medical Center.

Known affectionately as “JoCas” to her lifelong school friends, Josefina nurtured connections across the globe. An avid traveler, she journeyed across six continents — setting foot in nearly every corner of the world save for Antarctica — and made a point of visiting her vast network of dear friends wherever her travels took her. At home and on the road, she was a fierce competitor at the mahjong table, where she regularly outplayed the competition with her sharp mind and quick wit.

Josefina is survived by her three children, Jose (Annarica), Tricia, and Alanna (Kyle), her two grandsons, Jonah and Jeremy, and her beloved chihuahua, Romeo.

A burial service will be held on September 25, 2026, at 9:30 AM at Greenwood Cemetery in Orlando, FL. A Celebration of Life will follow at 11:00 AM at the Azalea Lodge at Mead Botanical Gardens. If you plan to attend, please let the family know so enough food is catered.
