Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Joseph "Archie" Prince, who passed away peacefully on April 4th, 2025, at the age of 89. Archie was born March 8th, 1936, the son of Joseph A. Prince and Rita Nadeau of Westbrook, Maine. Archie grew up in Westbrook, Maine. He attended a French elementary school and spoke only French as a child.  He delivered newspapers and medications during the War in 1944-1945.  He was active in Boy Scouts achieving the rank of Life Scout.  He represented his troop at the International Jamboree in Valley Forge, Pa. in 1950.

Archie graduated from Westbrook High School and married Barbara in 1953. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1953 during the Korean War.  He spent mot of his military service at the Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, Japan with rank of Sargent.  When he was discharged from service, he worked in the paper industry and went back to school.  He completed an associates degree in Business Administration.  A few years later he attended the University of Maine campus and completed studies in Pulp and Paper Technology.

While working in the paper industry, Archie spent time in manufacturing, research and working at the corporate office in Boston.  Later he was reassigned to the Scott Mill in Mobile Alabama as product manager.  He traveled most of the United States for this company.  He returned to New England to join another paper company as sales manager.  During those years he was actively involved with local planning board and became a Chairman of the Greater Portland Planning Commission.

He designed and built his first home in 1960 in Gorham, Maine.  He purchased other properties and managed them for ten years.

Archie enjoyed sailing the Maine coast for many years. He sailed the Bermuda Race where he came in second in his class.  Music was a passion.  He sang at many events over 15 years.  He was an avid climber and climbed all of 4000-foot mountains in Maine and New Hampshire.  He climbed Mt. Katadan ten times.

He belonged to various organizations such as; Oceanside Country Club of Ormond Beach, Portland Yacht Club, New England and Boston Trade Association.

Archie received a commendation of gratitude from the South Korean government for participation during the engagement.  He received a letter of praise from FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover for saving many lives at Dauphin Island, Alabama.

He leaves companion Judith Sehgal of Ormond Beach, children Alan (Lisa Owens) Prince of California and Randy (Cheri) Prince of Florida.  Grandchildren Corey (Dave) Perreault and Nicholas (Jennifer) Wyman of Maine, Justin (Robin) Prince of North Dakota and Kailey Prince of California.  His great-grandchildren; Stella Wyman, Grace Perrault, Paige Perrault, Hunter Wyman, Tucker Wyman of Maine, Eli Prince, Evan Prince, Easton Prince of North Dakota.  His sister Dorothy (Frank) McRae of Florida.  Predeceased by his wife, Barbara Prince, daughter Catherine Wyman, sister Shirley Lally, and granddaughter Jamie Lynn Prince.

Archie lived by a simple rule: Don't lie, don't cheat and take care of your people.  Funeral Services with military honors will be held at St. James Episcopal Church in Ormand Beach, Florida on Tuesday, April 8th at 11:00am.
