Obituary

Joseph J. Cervini, age 88, died on October 12, 2023, in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Joe is survived by his beloved sister, Mary Lou Dieppa, and his brother-in-law, Manny Dieppa of Edgewater, Florida. He also leaves behind his nieces and nephews: Anthony, Donna, Angela, Joey, and Marie; many great-nieces and great-nephews; and more great-great nieces and great-great nephews. Joe is preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Angelina Cervini.

Joe was born on July 31, 1935, at the Webb Sanitarium of the City of New York, Bronx, NY. He was born to his Italian parents, and just 13 months later, his sister joined him in the world. They were always very close, looked out for each other, and traveled in the same group of friends growing up. Joe graduated from Roosevelt High School and was later inducted into the United States Army on May 19, 1960. He was a member of the Tank Division and served for many years in Germany and traveled across Europe. He went on to have other careers with Citi Bank and in factory work in New York City and across Long Island. He enjoyed train rides on the Long Island Railroad for work and on the weekends to explore the city. Joe was always at family gatherings with a camera in hand and has a large collection of photos of his family and his days in the military. His favorite place to visit was Cooky's Deli in Bohemia, NY every night for dinner.

Joe moved to Edgewater from Long Island in June 2020 to live across the street from his sister. He spent his last few years surrounded by family and in the Florida sun. His family and friends will remember him as a quiet and generous man. "Uncle Joe" was always the person to give you what you needed and could always crack a joke when necessary. The impact of his life and the memories he created will live on through the stories and fond recollections shared by those who loved him. He will be dearly missed and forever remembered.

A memorial service and visitation will be held at Baldwin Brothers Funeral & Cremation Society of New Smyrna Beach, Florida on Thursday, October 19, 2023, from 6-8p.m. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline could be made in his honor.
