Obituary

Joseph William Fall, age 79, formerly of Westvale, New York, and The Villages, Florida passed away on February 1, 2026 after a brief illness. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, he passed away peacefully surrounded by family. He loved his wife, Diane, wholeheartedly, for over 57 years.

Born in 1946 and raised in Solvay, New York, Joe was the son of the late Joseph L. Fall and Mary Armani Fall. He was a proud graduate of Solvay High School Class of 1964 and Onondaga Community College. He served in the US Navy Reserves.

He remained deeply connected to his Central New York roots throughout his life. He spent his career working for Niagara Mohawk, later National Grid, where he served as a supervisor in the gas department. Known for his strong work ethic and leadership, he took pride in his profession and the people he worked alongside.

A lifelong learner and natural storyteller, Joe was an avid history buff who loved sharing stories from the past with anyone willing to listen. He enjoyed spending his time watching war movies. He had a curious mind and a sharp intellect, which also led him to dabble in the stock market.

He was a lifelong and passionate Syracuse University sports fan — a loyalty that never faded, even after retiring to The Villages, Florida.

Above all else, Joe cherished his family. He was the proud father of four daughters, whom he loved deeply, and a devoted grandfather to nine grandchildren who brought him immense joy. His family was the center of his world, and his legacy lives on through the love, values, and stories he shared with them.

Joe will be remembered for his warmth, quick wit, and humor. He leaves behind a family who will forever hold him in their hearts.

Joe is survived by his wife, Diane (Raus) Fall, their four daughters Denise Fall Bennett (Ed), Karen Fall VanBuren (Jeff) Janet Fall, and Kristin Fall Schillo (Matt) and his nine beloved grandchildren: Morgan, Luke, and Ryan Bennett; Jacob, Samantha, and Matthew VanBuren; Olivia, Sophia, and Zoey Schillo. His most loyal companions were his dogs, Sally and Finn.

He was predeceased by his parents and sister, Diane. He is survived by his many sisters and brothers-in-law and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A celebration honoring his life will take place at a later date in Syracuse, New York.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joe’s name to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
