Hegedus, Joseph Francis.
Joseph Hegedus died January 17, 2025, of Lymphoma and after a years' long battle with Guillain Barre during which he provided encouragement to the other patients in rehabilitation and was an inspiration to all. He was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey, the son of Joseph and Mary Hegedus, graduated from Linden High School and Seton Hall University and served in Vietnam. He moved back to NJ after his military service, married Amile Witek and started family. While living there, he was involved with youth bowling and President of both the county and the state branches of the Youth Bowling Alliance.
Joe and his family lived in NJ until he retired in 2003 after 25 years with Prudential as a supervisor and insurance adjuster. They moved to Florida in 2004. His wife died in 2011, and he remarried and moved to Maitland in 2015.
During his retirement, Joe enjoyed bowling and photography; he was a Master Gardener, and "liked fixing things for others." He served on the City of Maitland Planning & Zoning Commission and Board of Directors of the Lake Faith Condominium Association. Joe and his wife, JoAnn, enjoyed international travel and volunteered together at the Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando.
Joe and is survived by his wife, JoAnn (Gould); son Joseph A (Sharon), brothers Robert (Michelle) of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Michael (Manda) of Clifton NJ; sister Patricia Ollinick, (Jeffrey) of Cranford, NJ; sister-in-law Eugenia Mercadante (Gerald) of Jupiter, FL, and 15 nieces and nephews.
Joe was predeceased by his first wife Amile (Witek), and sister Mary DeVico.
There will be a Celebration of Life on Sunday, February 9 at 11:30 a.m. at the University Club of Winter Park, 841 N. Park Avenue, 32789, followed by a luncheon. Friends and family are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
