Joseph Calvin Mills, II was born October 7, 1942, to Joseph Calvin Mills, Sr. and Dorothy Mildred (nee Joseph) Mills in Tampa, FL. A long-time resident of Oviedo, FL, he departed this life on Saturday, April 5, 2025, after an extended illness. He grew up in Winston-Salem, NC, and was a proud graduate of Atkins High School Class of 1961. A Vietnam veteran, he retired from the US Air Force as a Master Sergeant after serving honorably for 26 years in at least 9 different duty stations. He was last assigned to the 6912th ESG in West Berlin during the Cold War, returning to the States one year before the Wall fell. After retiring from the Air Force, he worked for the State of Florida for 12 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and sister-in-law, Herbert Gordon and Carolyn (Ferguson) Mills, and a sister Verna Carolyn (Mills) Martin.
Joseph is survived by his wife, Ida; a niece, Jessica Martin of Orlando, FL; three nephews, Kennon Mills of Atlanta, GA, Jeremy Martin of Winston-Salem, NC and Jesse (Tory) Martin II of Jackson, MS. He also leaves a brother-in-law Jesse Martin, Sr. of Winston-Salem, NC; three cousins, Dorothy Mae Johnson, Betty Hancock, and Charles Joseph all of Tampa, FL.
Private inurnment will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Wounded Warrior Project ( www.woundedwarriorproject.org ), Jacksonville, FL.
