IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joseph
Schmitt
October 29, 1944 – June 19, 2025
Joseph "Joe" Schmitt, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather,
brother, cousin and uncle, has passed away peacefully at his home in Cape Coral, Florida
on Thursday, June 19th, 2025. He was 80 years old.
Joe was born on October 29th, 1944 to his loving parents:
Joseph Schmitt (Father) and
Henrietta Grunstra (Mother) in Passaic, NJ where he spent most of his childhood.
Joe served in the Vietnam War in 1968 as an Army Sargent and was stationed in Stuttgart, Germany.
After his time spent in Passaic, Joe moved to his primary home in Manville, NJ which he shared with
his loving wife, Carol Ann Schmitt.
It was there, where Joe successfully started his own computer business that operated for
decades, before establishing a home improvements company.
Joe had an adventurous life! He was an avid sailor and kept himself fit by going to his
favorite gym several times a week. Aside from his work in computers and carpentry engineering,
Joe was a fabulous cook and loved to entertain his many friends and family on every occasion
he could. All of his pets, Muffin, Crissy Crystal, Lady, Sheba, Lucy and his cat, Destiny,
enjoyed the falling crumbs of his delicious master pieces he whooped up. Joe had a great passion
for music and with all things combined, he was truly the life of the party!
What Joe enjoyed most of all was traveling with his wife, Carol. They explored many places
both near and far. One of their favorite destinations was Sanibel Island, Florida, which is
considered the "Seashell Capitol of the World". He loved walking along the Gulf Coast, watching
the spectacular sunrises, sunsets, and collecting some of the most incredible and sometimes rare
species of shells that washed up along the beach. He was a great sheller!
After many visits to the island, Joe decided the next big adventure in his life would be to
live in the surrounding area. He meticulously picked out a lot in Cape Coral, Florida and built
his dream home, right on the canal, where he could keep his boat and sail out to Sanibel whenever
he wanted. Joe enjoyed is dream home and decorated it with all the beautiful, unique and tropical
things he brought back from his travels around the world! He loved being the captain of his own
boat and cherished the times when family came to visit and stayed at the house,
whether it was only for the day, a week or a month.
Joe was extremely proud of his accomplishments! He happily shared them with everyone,
most especially with his forever soulmate of 50 years, Carol Ann.
Joe was loved so much and will be deeply missed by many.
He will be watching over his loved ones from the sandy beaches of heaven!
