Joseph “Joe” Harold Schwab passed away peacefully at his home on February 25, 2026, surrounded by his family and an abundance of love — just the way he wanted.

Born in Pittsburgh in 1944 to Joe and Betty Schwab, Joe grew up alongside his two brothers, Tim and Kenny. Tim was not only his brother, but his lifelong best friend and favorite partner in mischief. From an early age, Joe stood out — especially on the field. A gifted athlete, he earned a scholarship to play soccer at Shippensburg State College.

At just 14 years old, Joe met the love of his life, Sue. With a little luck he managed to keep her through high school and 59 years of marriage. Their love story was one full of happiness, laughter, partnership, and more than a few eye rolls on Sue’s part.

Joe was a man who found true joy in serving others. He served as President of the local Jaycees’ chapter and coached and volunteered for every team his kids were involved in. If there was a need, Joe showed up. And if there was a barstool nearby, he probably paid for your drink.

He especially loved children — perhaps because he never quite stopped being one himself.
Joe is survived by his wife Sue; his son, Matthew Schwab; his daughter, Jodi Schwab; his cherished grandchildren, Lana, Milo, and Delaney; and beloved dog, Smokey. He was incredibly proud of his family and found his greatest happiness simply being with them.

Joe also loved being on the water and was never more content than when he was at the helm of a boat. After years of owning his own business Joe retired, only to become a Sea Tow captain, combining his love of boating with his desire to be in the service of others.

He also found happiness watching Steelers football, Pirates baseball, golfing, bowling, drinking cold beer, and enjoying live music. Sing-a-longs with family and friends — especially his brother Tim — were always joyous occasions.

Joe will be deeply missed by his family, his friends, and just about every establishment that sold Miller Lite. On that note, our heartfelt condolences to the Miller Brewing Company for the noticeable dip in quarterly earnings. More than anything, Joe will be remembered for his kindness, his generosity, his humor, and the way he made people feel — welcomed, valued, and loved. The world is a little quieter without him, but far better for having had him.

We love you Dad (a.k.a. Pap Pap, Joe, Numbnutz.) You had an amazing run and we’re never going to stop missing you.
