Joy Ann Derrick Hall

October 14, 1944 – October 19, 2026

Age 82

Joy Ann Derrick Hall, 82, of Port Charlotte, Florida, passed peacefully on October 19, 2026. Born October 14, 1944, in Memphis, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Otis Derrick and Myrtle R. Derrick.

Joy grew up in West Memphis, Arkansas, surrounded by family, including her half-siblings and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. On July 29, 1962, she married the love of her life, James Donald Hall. Together, they shared 63 years of marriage filled with love, family, and faith. In 1974, they moved from West Memphis to Southwest Florida, where they built their life and raised their family. Though Jim preceded her in death on September 1, 2025, their love story continues, and they are now reunited in heaven.

Joy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her son, Derrick Hall (Debbie) of Land O’ Lakes, FL; her daughter, Sandra “Sandi” Hall Bevill of North Port, FL; her half-brother, Emmett Derrick of Alabama; three grandchildren, Richard “Ricky” Bevill (Adrianna) of Tampa, FL, Ty Hall of Tampa, FL, and Sara Bevill Verost (Marco) of Venice, FL; and three great-grandchildren, Luca Verost, Flora Bevill, and Sofia Verost.

Throughout her life, Joy worked as a secretary for attorneys before retiring from the United Telephone Company in Port Charlotte, Florida. Outside of her professional life, she was an extraordinarily talented and creative woman with a lifelong passion for painting, gardening, and cooking. Her artistic eye and remarkable green thumb brought beauty to everything she touched, while her talent in the kitchen made meals and gatherings special for everyone fortunate enough to share them with her. Her grandchildren especially cherished her beautiful artwork and the wonderful meals she prepared. Through her example, she passed down her love of creativity, gardening, and cooking to her family, leaving a legacy of talents and traditions that will continue for generations. Joy was also a member of the Port Charlotte Garden Club and several local art societies. She loved attending church and decorating for holiday events, sharing her creativity and helping make each celebration special.

Above all, Joy was a devoted Christian whose faith in God was central to her life. She loved her Lord, her family, and serving others through the gifts and talents God had given her. Whether tending to her garden, creating a beautiful painting, preparing a home-cooked meal, or helping decorate her church, she expressed her love in ways that brought joy to those around her. Her faith, warmth, creativity, and devotion to her family left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, November 1, 2026, at her home in Port Charlotte, Florida, with family and friends gathering to honor and celebrate her life.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Joy’s memory to an Alzheimer’s or dementia organization, or to Tidewell Hospice in Port Charlotte, Florida.

Joy will be deeply missed, but her love, faith, and beautiful legacy will live on through her family and friends. Though her family grieves her passing, they find comfort in knowing she is at peace with the Lord and reunited in heaven with her beloved Jim.
