Judith (Judy) Ann Carr, age 84, passed away last week following a brief illness. She was born on February 6, 1940, in Columbus, Ohio.

Many people know Judy as a dignified lady, always composed in dress and prose, but Judy was also a woman of grit and strength. As a young single mother, she raised her three young sons on a working farm on north Whidbey Island minutes away from Deception Pass.

She was an avid reader and in past years enjoyed golfing, cooking, and accompanying John on his adventures with the Elks. She was quietly competitive at card games and used her dry sense of humor to humble the most ardent trash talkers in her presence.

Her children and grandchildren knew who the boss at "Grandma's House" was. They were all well versed in her lessons:

"Grandma's house – Grandma's Rules!"

"There's NO crying in Grandma's house!"

If she gave you "the look" you knew to modify your behavior with dispatch. Her stern nature was more than balanced by the timely hug, thoughtful gifts, and encouragement. She created so many traditions and loving memories for her family.

Her greatest legacy was the loving relationship she had with her husband John. Their relationship was an incredible expression of partnership, respect, and care that set an example for their family and close friends.

She is survived by her husband of 45 years John Carr, sons Wm Mike, Dan and Tim Rector, stepchildren Tim and Linda Carr, many grandchildren and great grandchildren, and her sister Margaret Fuller.

She will be missed by many.
