Obituary

Judith "Judy" Ann Bonn, age 83, passed away peacefully in The Villages, Florida on June 12, 2026. Born on November 1, 1942 in Englewood, New Jersey, Judy lived a life defined by education, advocacy, service, curiosity, and a deep love for her family.

Judy graduated from Cliffside Park High School in 1960 before earning her Bachelor's degree from William Paterson University of New Jersey in 1964. Her passion for learning continued throughout her life, culminating in a Master's degree in Higher Education from the University of South Florida in 1986. She dedicated her professional career to serving students as a school counselor, helping guide and encourage countless young people as they pursued their own educational and personal goals.

A lifelong advocate for education and equality, Judy was an active member of the American Association of University Women (AAUW), where she served as a co-president, and as she jokingly referred to herself, the organization's "general nuisance." She brought enthusiasm, intelligence, humor, and determination to the causes she cared about. Judy was also a devoted volunteer with her local Animal Protection League (APL), generously giving her time in support of animal welfare.

Judy found joy in life's simple pleasures. She loved traveling by Amtrak, watching the scenery pass by from her window while reading a good book. She valued meaningful conversations, lifelong learning, and opportunities to connect with others. She believed strongly in standing up for what was right and was an advocate for many causes throughout her life, including education, equality, animal welfare, and voting rights. Judy was passionate about civic engagement and believed every voice deserved to be heard.

She was preceded in death by her parents Gert Richard and Cecilia Koenig, her husband Charles William Phariss, her beloved granddaughter Karla Phariss, and her cherished cats.

Judy is survived by her son Charles Richard Phariss, and her grandchildren Alma (Carlos) Garcia and Gabriel Phariss. She is also survived by her stepchildren Kristina Bonn and Daniel (Mary) Bonn, and her bonus grandchildren Addison and Grayson Bonn.

Those who knew Judy will remember her gentle spirit, compassionate heart, sharp wit, and unwavering honesty. She had a special gift for telling the truth with kindness and grace. Her family treasured her sincerity, wisdom, and willingness to speak openly from a place of love. Judy's legacy lives on through the many students she encouraged, the causes she championed, the animals she helped, and the family she loved so dearly. She will be deeply missed, and forever carried in the hearts of those who knew her.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to a local Animal Protection League (APL) or the American Association of University Women (AAUW), organizations that reflect Judy's lifelong commitment to compassion, education, equality, civil rights, and service to others.
