Judith (Judy) Anne Bolkema Tokar, 85, of Port Orange, Florida passed peacefully on December 9, 2024, at Paradise Point Assisted Living Facility in Ormond Beach, Florida. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Born in Jersey City, New Jersey, Judy was the daughter of Charles and Anne Margaret Lane. Judy grew up in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. In the early 1960's she married Theodore Bolkema. They had two sons: Theodore and John. During that time, she received her bachelor's and master's degree at Montclair State University majoring in Art and Education. She had a long career in teaching both full and part time. The family was also involved in raising and showing Morgan horses and owned Bolkema Fuel Company in Mahwah, NJ. In 1985 her husband Theodore passed away. After his passing, Judy continued to be involved in the family fuel company and expanded her interest in computer programming. She joined Liberty Travel where she developed a training manual used to train new employees on computer operations. Judy always had a passion for flying. In 1992 she received her private pilot license and her instrument rating in 1993 flying out of Lincoln Park Airport, Lincoln Pk, NJ. Through the pilot association she met John Tokar and they were married in March 1997. Together they continued to work in the computer software business until they retired in 2001. Judy and John moved to Florida and settled in the Spruce Creek Fly-In community. It was there that her aviation family grew. She was an active member of the Ninety-Nines, an international organization of licensed woman pilots. Through the Ninety-Nines she participated in 16 Air Race Classics. She was a founding member of the endowment fund and was a lifetime trustee. Judy has landed her plane 2 ½ times in the lower 48 states. In 2015 she had her final flight in Anchorage Alaska. She was a member of Spruce Creek Country Club, the Garden Club and Quilting Club and was an early member of the Spruce Creek WOW, woman of wings. She leaves behind her husband, John Tokar; sons Theodore Bolkema and John Bolkema; grandchildren, John Scott Bolkema, Joseph Bolkema, Brandi Ferrari and Samantha Bolkema; sisters; Constance Lane, Nancy Werner and Sue Ann Luther; brother; Wallace Mc Gaughey; stepchildren; John Tokar III, Cindy Hodge, Anthony Tokar and several step grandchildren. Donations may be made in Judy's memory to the Ninety-Nines Endowment Fund Inc. 4300 Amelia Earhart Dr Ste A Oklahoma City, OK 73159-1106 A memorial service will be held at a later date.
