IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Judy O
Batterson
December 27, 1949 – November 28, 2017
Judy O'Donoghue Batterson, 67, Orlando, Florida passed away on November 28, 2017. A memorial service will be held Saturday December 9, 2017 at 11 a.m. at St. Michaels Episcopal Church, Bishop Greg Brewer and Rev. Rick Luoni will conduct the service. A reception will follow in Quigley Hall. Judy was born in Jacksonville, Florida on December 27, 1949. She moved to Orlando with her parents in 1957 where she attended Lake Weston Elementary, Robert E. Lee Jr High, and Edgewater High school where she met her future husband Craig. She attended Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, VA where she was elected Sophomore Class President. She relocated to Gainesville, Florida her junior year where she attended the University of Florida, receiving her degree in art in 1971. As an undergraduate, she was a member of the Gargoyles Honor Society and Alpha Delta Pi sorority. As a lifelong Gator, she enjoyed Gator game days with her family and gator friends. She taught art in both Jacksonville and Orlando and was responsible for starting the Arts in April program at Lake Highland Prep. She was in involved in the Junior League of Orlando, the Rosalind Club of Orlando and several bible study groups. Judy became a locally recognized artist for her Florida landscape oil paintings. Her work has been featured throughout Central Florida, as well as in the premier international art show, Art Basel in Miami Beach. Her paintings have been sold all over the country. She was proud of her Irish heritage and loved to travel to Europe, especially her favorite country, Ireland, where she visited both the O'Donoghue-Ross Castle in Killarney and O'Donoghue's Pub in downtown Dublin. Her family heritage dated back to her great grandfather, Dr. John O'Donoghue, of Ireland and Uruguay who was Teddy Roosevelt's veterinary surgeon for the Rough Riders. This relationship resulted in a family reunion in Buenos Aires in 2008 with over 100 of her relatives from all over the world. More than anything, Judy loved spending time with her family and friends. Her most precious memories were at the beach spending long hours next to her loved ones and capturing God's beautiful landscape on canvas. Her love for Christ was first and foremost and she carried this love into each relationship. She was a true "fisher of men," forever impacting the hearts and minds of those she encountered. She is preceded in death by her brother, Frederick Richard O'Donoghue, Jr. Judy is survived by her husband, Craig, son Scott (Cara) Batterson, daughter Sara (Shawn) Anastasia, parents Arthur and Alice Belden, grandchildren Kate, Mac and Asher, brother Bruce (Leigh) O'Donoghue, sister Janice (Jim) Subers, father-in-law Richard Batterson and sister-in-law Debra (Richard) Love.
