Karen E. Douglas Smith born December 27, 1970 in Brooklyn, New York died from complications of Sickle Cell disease on July 19, 2017. She leaves to cherish her memory: her husband, Lorenzo Smith, their sons, Shane and Jarel, her step-sons, Xavier and Leland, and her parents, James and Maudlyn Douglas.  After graduating from Bethune-Cookman College she spent her career teaching at Southwestern Middle School and Deltona High School.
