Karen Goodman

The family of Karen Lee Goodman is saddened to announce her death on May 1, at the age of 82.

Karen was born on January 21, 1943 in Detroit, MI. The oldest of three sisters, she attended the University of Michigan, where she met her first husband, Stan Rosen. She and Stan moved to Bloomfield, CT, where they raised their two children, Evan and Jennifer. Karen eventually returned to school and completed her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Health Care Policy at the University of Connecticut. She worked for UConn Health Center for many years, rising to serve as the President of the Capitol Area Health Consortium.

Karen and her partner Joel Caplin spent the last many years in the Villages where they enjoyed an active retirement. She served as President of the Villages chapter of Civitan International and she and Joel were avid golfers. They also traveled together to Asia, Africa, South America, Israel, and Australia.

Karen was fiercely devoted to her family. She hosted gatherings, holidays, and vacations for her large blended clan. She was an incredibly generous woman, with a remarkable zest for life and sense of fun. She loved puzzles and word games, good books, and watching Jeopardy. She adored her grandchildren, and they adored her. She was refreshingly honest and direct–you always knew where you stood with Karen.

She is survived by her partner Joel Caplin, her children Evan (Eve) Rosen and Jennifer (Matt) Diel, her grandchildren Quinn Donnelly, Sarah Donnelly, Milo Rosen, Theodora Rosen, and Charli Caplin, by Joel's sons Daniel (Kate) and Paul (Ashleigh) Caplin, her sisters Judy Hampton and Barbara Goodman, and by many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A memorial service will be held in The Villages on July 19, 2025.
