Obituary

Karen Marie (Girard) Edwards, 73, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2026, at HCA Bayonet Point Hospital in Hudson, Florida, surrounded by the memory of a life beautifully and vibrantly lived.

Born in Gloversville, New York on October 24, 1952, she was the only daughter of the late Ovid and Ethel (Case) Girard. Karen spent most of her life in New York before bringing her sunny disposition to Hudson, Florida.

Karen poured her heart and soul into everything she did. Known for her exceptional work ethic, kind spirit, and keen knack for sales and customer service, she made a lasting impression through her work at The Schenectady Daily Gazette, The Gloversville Leader-Herald, and as the owner and sole proprietor of "Krafty Karen’s Krafts.” Her creativity and talent for sewing were admired by many.

To her family, she was famously known as “The Gifter” -- a title she earned by showering the people she cared about with thoughtful presents and pure joy. Karen chased the sunshine, loved sweets, and lived for laughter. Whether she was traveling, playing a good-natured joke, trying her luck at the casino, splashing in a pool, lake or the Gulf, or sharing a meal with friends, her bright spirit was undeniable.

Karen was predeceased by her parents and her former husband, Robert Edwards; niece, Christa Lynn Girard; nephews, David M. Girard and Michael S. Girard.

Her legacy of generosity lives on through her beloved brothers, August (Sandy) Girard and Peter Girard (Kay Lee King-Brown); her best friend, Daniell Graham; and her nieces, Amy Barfield (Girard), Kelly Pratt (Girard), and Emily Gregory. She also leaves behind her granddaughter-by-marriage, Trindalynn Velie Ouelette (Trinnie), who Karen raised as her own daughter; her great-granddaughter, Aria Hova; her many extended family members; and her "flock" of friends at the Club Wildwood Community. Karen’s warmth will also be missed by her loyal Goldendoodles, Joey and Daisy May; and her rescue cats, Patches and Precious.

Following a private graveside service, Karen will be laid to rest at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville, NY. In honor of her life, the family requests that donations be made to the American Kidney Fund.
