Obituary

Karen Jean Schlegel, age 84, passed away peacefully at home on July 12, 2026. 

Karen is survived by her husband, Joseph Schlegel of Daytona Beach Shores; her daughter, Deborah Schmoele of New Smyrna Beach; her stepson, Joseph Schlegel of Edgewater; her stepdaughter, Lorene and her husband, Michael Nix of New Smyrna Beach. She is preceded in death by her parents, Marie and William Wolf of West Hempstead, NY; her son, Frank Joseph Grasberger III of Edgewater; her aunt and uncle, Jenette and Carl Cochran of New Smyrna Beach and her husband, John (Jack) Teehan (deceased 2007). 

Karen was born on October 1, 1941, in Queens, NY, to parents Maria and William Wolf. She graduated from Daytona Beach Community College in Daytona Beach with an Associate's Degree in Psychology. She had several jobs before accepting a position as Loan Officer at Sun Trust Bank where she worked for 17 years. 

Karen was very family oriented and a loving daughter, mother, wife, niece and friend. She married Joseph Schlegel in November of 2020. Karen was a social, active woman who was deeply involved in her church and hospice for the majority of her life. She enjoyed helping others, socializing, volunteering, and spending time with family and friends. Her family and friends will always remember her as a loving, compassionate and caring person. 

A funeral and celebration of Karen's life is scheduled for 2:00 pm on August 1, 2026, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church with a reception to follow at the church Fellowship Hall. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Karen's life. In lieu to flowers, donations can be made to Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church or Hospice (Edgewater or Port Orange, FL locations).
