Katherine E.
Bates
May 23, 1980 — Oct 6, 2026
October 6, 2026
Katherine Elizabeth Turner passed away peacefully on the morning of October 6, 2026 at Tidewell Hospice in Venice, Florida after a brief illness.
She is survived by her children Kaylee, Addison, Kennedy and Jacob. She was pre-deceased by her infant daughter Harper who passed away shortly aher her birth in 2014.
She leaves behind her mom, Jami Turner of Merrimac, Massachusetts, her dad Bob Turner of Venice, Florida, two brothers Ryan Turner of San Pedro, California, Michael Turner of Saline, Michigan and her partner and the love of her life Chris Bowman of Venice, Florida
Katherine Elizabeth Turner (Kat to those who knew and loved her) was born to Robert and Jami Turner on May 23rd 1980, on a warm spring night in Salem, Massachusetts. It was the night tire movie “The Nun's Story" was inadvertently broadcast in Spanish; the confusion of which for her mom may well have stalled the somewhat early labor that resulted in the birth of our first child. Kathy was the first of an eventual trio of siblings to include Ryan Michael and Michael Patrick soon thereafter. From the start, the now first-born Katherine established herself early as the boss sibling and left no doubt to her two brothers who was going to be in charge.
Kat's early years were spent in Beverly, Massachusetts where the essentials of bike riding, driveway chalking, swim lessons, piano lessons, ice cream eating (we were within walking distance of the scoops and cones), soccer playing, face painting and a plethora of sundry activities were a part of growing from an innocent little girl to an intelligent, bold, inquisitive, fearless, warm, loving and beautiful pre-teen.
Kat was enrolled at Shore Country Day School in Beverly, an outstanding school which provided a very challenging environment, an optimal education, and new friends who would follow her through life. Kat's tenure at Shore saw her evolve from a lanky pre-teen to a polished young lady.
Moving to Boxford, ohen referred to by our friends as “out there in the sticks", found Kat now at Masconomet Regional High School (Masco) where students from three towns made up the student body with the opportunity to enhance the ever-increasing circle of friends. Not surprisingly, she dove head-first into her studies and excelled in her work. Cheerleading and Lacrosse (boy's Lacrosse to be exact) help fill her days along with the social aspects of now being a high schooler.
Summers found Kat learning the fine art of sailing at Pleon Yacht Club in Marblehead. While not quite a yacht, the tiny Optimist provided the essential functions of the larger version in a small compact boat not much larger than a shoe box. Along with the accumulation of sailing skills, it also taught independence, self-confidence and a furtherance of the essentials necessary to becoming a strong and self-sufficient adult. At the conclusion of a summer of Opti sailing she scored a win in the club raffle and won the Optimist she trained in and proudly sailed it back (solo) from Marblehead to Salem with a nervous but confident dad and her two brothers following close behind to ensure a safe and successful journey.
Kathy excelled at Masco and was an honor student throughout her tenure. She continued her studies at Arizona State University before settling in Longview, Texas. After several years in the workforce, she yearned for a change and enrolled in the nursing program at Kilgore College, graduating as a registered nurse in 2019. She pursued her career as a Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) in one of the most arduous and difficult areas of emergency medicine.
During the COVID-19 pandemic she was recruited by FEMA and deployed to the Harlingen Medical Center in Harlingen, Texas to care for seriously ill COVID patients through the Department of Health and Human Services. In this position she excelled in a high-stress environment and delivered her professional and elective care and support to many critical patients during her tenure. This was easily the most dihicult stretch of her career, but she handled it like the consummate professional that she is and completed her assignment before returning to Longview and her family.
While at Harlingen, Kathy was presented with the Daisy Award for Extraordinary Nurses, a recognition program that honors licensed nurses who provide extraordinary, compassionate care.
Kathy was an immensely proud mom to Kaylee, Addison, Kennedy and Jacob who will proudly carry on her legacy of kindness, compassion, caring, and an endless love.
In December of 2014 Harper Elizabeth was born into her family and tragically passed away only five days later. This was a crushing blow to Kathy and her family and left a huge hole in her heart and a pain that would last forever.
After completing ter assignment at Harlingen, she moved to Florida and began working in Elder Care as a unit manager at Sunset Lakes Health and Rehab and at Aspire of Venice, again as a unit manager.
Throughout her life Kathy has always been determined, stubborn (she gets that from her dad), very loving (she gets that from her mom) and incredibly social. Her circle of friends is enough to fill a small town. She was easily the best mom to her children this side of the universe. She was an incredibly beautiful human being.
Kathy will leave a gaping hole in our hearts that will be impossible to fill. We will miss her terribly but will hold her in our hearts forever.
I would be remiss if I did not mention the exceptional care Kathy received at Sarasota Memorial Hospital in Venice and also at Tidewell Hospice, also here in Venice.
May she rest in peace.
