August 5, 1927 – February 11, 2025
Kathleen Flynn
Kathleen Ann "Kitty" Flynn, born 97 years ago in Kansas City, Missouri, went to be with the Lord on February 11, 2025.
A prayer service/Celebration of Life will be held in Fort Myers, Florida on February 16th and at a later date in Sioux City, Iowa. Online condolences may be sent through the funeral home obituary at https://baldwincremation.com
Kitty was born on August 5, 1927, to Leo W. and Teresa G. (Fessler) Malloy of Sioux City. In 1950, Kitty married Raymond L. Flynn of Sioux City. They were married for 63 years until Ray's passing in 2013. They spent most of their life together in Sioux City raising their four sons, enjoying their many life-long friendships, vacationing and boating at Miner's Bend on the Missouri River (special thanks to Phil and Virginia Keating), and hosting the best annual St. Patrick's Day parties in the history of the town. In 1985, Kitty and Ray moved to Pleasanton, California where they began enjoyable new careers, loved the year-round sunny weather, made many new good friends, traveled, and spent time with their family. 15 years later, they moved back to Sioux City to reunite with their Iowa family and friends. In 2018, Kitty moved to Fort Myers to be closer to her four sons, their spouses and her grandchildren who live in Florida.
Kitty was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, attended Briar Cliff University, worked hard while raising her family, and volunteered for many organizations including serving as Auxiliary President of St. Joseph Hospital and as President of the Sioux City Symphony Women's Committee. Over the years, she was in business administration for D.K. Baxter's, Farner Bocken, and Cargil in Sioux City and was an expert medical transcriptionist for Safeco Insurance in California.
Throughout her life, Kitty was blessed with the love of her family and many friends and enjoyed a strong faith in God. She was always easy to talk with, had a great sense of humor, dressed impeccably and had an infectious smile. She was an excellent piano player and her love of music has been passed on to her entire family. She enjoyed gardening, hummingbirds, spending time outdoors, dancing, playing bridge and was a voracious reader. Kitty loved photography, took pictures of every gathering, and spent many hours looking through her photo albums and reminiscing about wonderful times with others. She especially loved all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and cherished the time they shared in person, online or on the phone.
Kitty is survived by three sons: Tim (and Ralene) Flynn – Punta Gorda, Florida; Brian (and Denise) Flynn – Cape Coral, Florida; and Scott (and Krista) Flynn – Fort Myers, Florida. She is survived by seven grandchildren: Melissa Flynn, Nicole (and Victor) Campos, Sean Flynn, Brianna (and Colin) Scherle, Jake Flynn, Olivia Shears, and Mackenzie Flynn. She is also survived by three great grandchildren: Quinn Dufek, Cecilia Scherle, and soon-to-be-born Flynn Campos.
Kitty was preceded in death by her husband Ray, son Mark Flynn, parents Leo and Teresa Malloy, sisters Cecelia Taylor and Pat Erli, and a brother William Malloy.
Memorials in remembrance of Kitty can be made in her name to the charity of your choice.
