Obituary

Kathleen Ann Poole (Spence) 1962 – 2025

Kathleen Ann "Kathy" Poole, 63, of Daytona Beach FL, passed away on July 24, 2025.

Born on June 3, 1962 in Oneonta NY, Kathy brought warmth and energy to every chapter of her life. Kathy grew up in Ormond Beach and graduated Seabreeze High School class of 1980. She went on to build a lifelong career in banking, dedicating over three decades to Suntrust/Sun Bank. Her professional journey culminated in commercial loan processing before she retired – a testament to her diligence and commitment.

Family was the heart of Kathy's world. She is lovingly remembered by her son William Poole; her grandchildren Liam and Lola of Port Orange, FL; and her ex-husband William Poole. Her bond with her grandchildren was especially cherished. She adored them deeply and found great joy in sharing special moments with them.

Kathy is also survived by her sisters Sue Close (Steve) and Patty Thomas, both of Ormond Beach; her brothers Mike Spence and Steve Spence, both of Holly Hill; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and extended family members. Kathy shared many years with her significant other and best friend Rick Atkins of Daytona Beach.

She was preceded in death by her parents William and Helen Spence (Herzberg); and brothers John (Jack) Spence; William (Billy) Spence Jr.; and Douglas (Doug) Spence.

A woman of faith and community spirit, Kathy attended First Methodist Church in Daytona Beach. She found joy in bringing her grandchildren to services alongside Rick and took an active role working with the young children in the Children's Church. Following church, Kathy's perfect day would continue by taking the grandchildren (including Rick's granddaughter Harper) out to breakfast and back to their condo to swim.

Kathy embraced life with enthusiasm. Known for being the life of the party, Kathy loved any reason for a party or celebration – birthdays – holidays – anniversaries – any occasion that brought people together.

Her love for the beach made Florida the perfect home for Kathy's vibrant spirit. Organized and strong-willed, she approached life with clear expectations and a determined heart.

In recent years Kathy faced serious health challenges stemming from medical malpractice/negligence. Despite the hardships, she fought valiantly to recover – her resilience a reflection of the strength that defined her life.

A memorial service, celebrating Kathy's life, was held at the Anderson Price Building in Ormond Beach on August 9th. She will be interred, with a memorial stone at a later date. She will rest alongside her three brothers in the Court of Reflections at Volusia Memorial Gardens.

May Kathy Poole's memory bring comfort, joy, and peace to all who knew and loved her. There will be other celebrations. And when there are – please remember Kathy's laughter, I know she will be right there with us!
